Windows 7 and Mac OS X Compatibility

If you have a disk with copyright date 2008 or later it is Windows 7 and Mac OS X compatible.  Please note that when we make changes to our CD's we don't necessarily update the major and minor version numbers (like version 2.0) so you need to check your copyright date.  The Great Action Adventure has been updated several times since 2002.  If you have an earlier disk you will need to order an upgrade for $20.00.  Please call our toll free number, (888) 777-0876, or email us at info@silverliningmm.com.

Product Updates and Upgrades

Video Doesn't Play (Windows and Macintosh)

When starting a video, only the sound plays but not the video. This problem occurs when you update QuickTime to version 7.5 or higher. The video in the original version of the Great Action Adventure was compressed using the Intel Indeo codec (which at the time gave the best quality possible). Apple, without forewarning, removed this codec from QuickTime with the release of version 7.5.

There are two ways of addressing this problem, install version 7.4 of QuickTime and do not update QuickTime on your system, or contact us (at 1-888-777-0876) about obtaining a new version of the Great Action Adventure which uses a different compression format for the videos. The new version of the Great Action Adventure uses a non-proprietary compression format for video, and is Windows Vista and Mac OS X compatible.

Running the Great Action Adventure On Mac OS X

We have released a new version of the Great Action Adventure that runs natively on Mac OS X. If you have an old version, please contact us about upgrading (1-888-777-0876).

Running the Great Action Adventure on Windows Vista

The original version of the Great Action Adventure will not store student data properly on Windows Vista. The new version of the Great Action Adventure is Windows Vista Compatible. If you have an old version, please contact us about upgrading (1-888-777-0876).

The Program Doesn't Launch When The Disk Is Inserted (Windows)

If you have not run the installer yet, then go to your start button and select My Computer (or Computer on Windows Vista), right click on the GreatAction CDROM icon and choose Explore, scroll to the file called Install, and double click it to run the installer. You only need to do this once. Now whenever you wish to run the program, double click the Great Action Adventure icon on your desktop, or click once on the entry in your Start button menu.

The Installer Doesn't Run on my System (Windows)

If you have an old version of the Great Action Adventure the installer will run on most systems, but if you find that it doesn't start, please call us (1-888-777-0876) about upgrading to the latest version of the Great Action Adventure.
